Burner Upgrades

Dual Fuel BurnerWhether in need of emissions reduction, efficiency improvements, or increased operating flexibility, STEP Combustion’s engineered solutions for NOx, CO, opacity, and particulate (PM/PM10) reduction may be the right answer for your application. STEP combustion’s burner upgrade technologies provide an engineered alternative to costly burner replacements which often include modifications to the combustion air (windbox, supply ducts, etc.), waterwall, and control systems. Burner solutions are available for most OEM burners in sizes ranging from 18 to 360 MMBtu/hr.

Flue Gas Recirculation

Flue gas recirculation, both forced (FGR) and induced (IFGR) can provide up to 80% NOx reduction (Firing gas) for industrial and utility fossil fuel fired boilers.  Utilizing the CFD Iso-Contoursexisting forced draft (FD) and/or induced draft (ID) fans (In some cases supplemental fans are required), exhaust gas is recirculated into the burner combustion zone.

The addition of flue gas lowers the available O2 concentration in the primary combustion zone thereby lengthening the flame, extending the combustion zone, and lowering the peak flame temperature.  STEP Combustion’s aerodynamic technologies help maximize the effectiveness and stability of installed FGR systems, by developing the proper flame shape which maintains stability through a wide range of FGR supply.

Over-Fire-Air Systems

Over fire air technology (OFA), like FGR, reduces furnace NOx generation through fuel-air staging.  Typical OFA designs result in NOx reductions of 35% to 50%, and can be applied to gas, refinery off-gas, fuel oil, and coal fired units.  STEP combustion’s extensive experience in the design, installation, and optimization of OFA systems guarantees you both a reliable and effective NOx reduction system.  In addition, STEP combustion utilizes variable area ports which increases OFA momentum and effectiveness at lower loads.

Selective Catalytic Reduction

Diagnostic TestingFor applications where in-furnace NOx reduction technologies are insufficient, STEP Combustion’s  SCR technology can provide post-combustion NOx reductions >90%.  Our proprietary injection and control system coupled with superior catalyst technology can be applied to industrial and commercial boiler systems

STEP Combustion’s SCR system utilizes non-toxic urea as the reducing reagent to convert NOx back into N2 (Nitrogen).
